Background checks before applying for admission
Before you apply for admission, you must have completed your background screening. This is carried out for us by Atlantic Data and costs £34. Find out how to apply for screening.
There is also an option to complete an early character and suitability assessment before admission if you have any concerns about suitability issues.
Qualified lawyers with an SQE2 assessment exemption
If you have had an SQE2 exemption, you must demonstrate your English or Welsh language competence before applying for admission. Find out what evidence you will need.
Applying for admission
You must meet all the requirements for the route you wish to apply under before you can start your application:
- LPC route - find out what you need to do.
- SQE route - find out what you need to do for your pathway to admission.
Once you have your screening results, you can apply for admission in your mySRA account. Please make sure you choose the correct route at the start.
Disclosing a suitability issue
When applying to be admitted as a solicitor, you must disclose any issues covered by our Assessment of Character and Suitability Rules. This includes matters identified in your background screening.
We also have information on what to expect if disclosing a suitability issue.
Your first practising certificate
If you carry out reserved legal activities, you will need a practising certificate. You can apply for your first practising certificate once you have chosen your admission date.
