Warning: Emails claiming to be from a law firm called 'SNS Law Solicitors' misusing the details of genuine law firms and genuine solicitors

Emails have been sent from 'SNS Law Solicitors', purporting to be from a genuine law firm misusing the details and names of genuine law firms and genuine solicitors in connection with purported trademarking applications.
What is the scam?
The SRA has been informed that emails have been sent to a number of recipients purporting to be from 'SNS Law Solicitors' in connection with supposed trademark applications.
The emails also misuse the names and SRA ID's of three genuine solicitors (see genuine details below) and the address of a genuine firm (see genuine details below). The emails relate to a supposed trademark conflict. The emails inform the recipients that their trademarks are at risk of being registered by another entity. The recipients are then encouraged to make contact with the sender within 72 hours in order to pursue an application to the United Kingdom Intellectual Property Office (UKIPO) to register the trademark.
The emails seen by the SRA were sent from the following email addresses:
- peter@legal.snslawsolicitors.com
- fiona@legalnotice.snslawsolicitors.com
- martina@legalnotice.snslawsolicitors.com
The emails also provide a postal address of Unit 3, 257 Northolt Road, Harrow, HA2 8HS (see below) a contact number of +44 7482052010 and a website address of 'www.snslawsolicitors.com'.
The SRA does not authorise or regulate a solicitor firm named 'SNS Law Solicitors'.
Any business or transactions through the email addresses, telephone number, postal address and web address mentioned above are not undertaken by any individual or firm authorised and regulated by the SRA.
Is there a genuine firm or person?
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Peter Charles Edward Bullock whose SRA ID number is 140580.
Peter Charles Edward Bullock has confirmed that he has no connection to the matter referred to in the above alert.
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Fiona Guest whose SRA ID number is 579248.
Fiona Guest has confirmed that she has no connection to the matter referred to in the above alert.
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Martina Berry whose SRA ID number is 7002021.
Martina Berry has confirmed that she has no connection to the matter referred to in the above alert.
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called S&S Law Solicitors Ltd as also known as S&S Law Solicitors (SRA ID 8005773). Its head office is Suite 4, Unit 1, Liberty Centre, Mount Pleasant, Wembley, HA0 1TX. Up until June 2024, the Firm operated from Unit 3, 257 Northold Road, Harrow, HA2 8HS. The genuine firm uses the email domain @snssolicitors.co.uk. and the genuine firm's website is https://snssolicitors.co.uk/.
The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors by the name of SNS Group LLP which also uses the trading name of SNS Solicitors (SRA ID 623061). The genuine firm uses the email domain @snslaw.co.uk and the genuine firm's website is www.snslaw.co.uk. Its head office is Denning House, 1, London Road, Maidstone, ME16 8HS and contact number is 01622 238850.
The genuine firm of solicitors SNS Group LLP and S&S Law Solicitors Ltd have confirmed that they do not have any genuine connection to the emails referred to in the above alert.
What should I do?
When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
