What is the scam?

The SRA has seen a 'letter of authority' purporting to be from 'Lawyer Omar Deeb', misusing the name, logo and address of a genuine firm of solicitors (see details below).

The letter also provides the telephone number '+447377773319' and email address 'solicitorsjdspicer@mail.co.uk'.

An IBAN and SWIFT bank account number were shared by 'Omar Lawer' via WhatsApp messages falsely purporting to be for the genuine firm of solicitors (see details below). The WhatsApp messages were sent from '+447377773319' and the account used a profile photo taken from the genuine firm's website.

The SRA does not authorise or regulate any individual with the name 'Omar Deeb' or 'Omar Lawer'.

Any business or transaction through the telephone number and email address mentioned above is not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called J D SPICER ZEB Solicitors (SRA ID 55671). The genuine firm's head office address is 6 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3RA. The genuine email domain for the firm is @jdspicer.co.uk, telephone number is 07836577556 and its genuine website is www.jdspicer.co.uk.

What should I do?

You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
