Warning: Emails sent misusing the names of William Burrows, Garvey Hanchard and two firms

Emails sent misusing the name, address and SRA IDs of William Burrows, Garvey Hanchard, Bloomsbury Square Employment Law LLP and Mulberry's Employment Law in relation to supposed wrongful dismissal and workplace harassment matters.

What is the scam?

The SRA has seen emails purporting to be sent from genuine solicitors (see below for details) regarding wrongful dismissal and workplace harassment matters.

The emails which have been seen by the SRA have been sent from the following email addresses, garvey@mulberryemploymentlawsllp.com and will@bloomsquareatllp.com.

The emails also misuse the address, telephone number and SRA IDs of two genuine firms of solicitors (see genuine firms’ details below). Any business or transactions through the above email addresses are not undertaken by a firm or individual authorised and regulated by the SRA.

Is there a genuine firm or person?

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Bloomsbury Square Employment Law LLP (SRA ID 825750). The genuine firm uses the email domain @bsquarelaw.co.uk and telephone number 0207 411 9021. Their office address is 12 Bloomsbury Square, London, WC1A 2LP.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine firm of solicitors called Mulberry's Employment Law Solicitors (SRA ID 470453). The genuine firm uses the email domain @mulberryssolicitors.com and telephone number 0203 8587 965. Their office address is Thanet House, 231-232 Strand, London, WC2R 1DA.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called William Burrows (SRA ID 516708) who is a member at Bloomsbury Square Employment Law LLP.

The SRA authorises and regulates a genuine solicitor called Garvey Hanchard (SRA ID 275086) who is a member at Bloomsbury Square Employment Law LLP.

Bloomsbury Square Employment Law LLP has confirmed that the firm, William Burrows and Garvey Hanchard do not have any connection to the above emails.

Mulberry's Employment Law Solicitors has also confirmed that it does not have any connection to the above emails and that it does not employ a solicitor by the name of Garvey Hanchard.

What should I do?

When a firm's or individual's identity has been copied exactly (or cloned), due diligence is necessary. If you receive correspondence claiming to be from the above firm(s) or individual(s), or information of a similar nature to that described, you should conduct your own due diligence by checking the authenticity of the correspondence by contacting the law firm directly by reliable and established means. You can contact the SRA to find out if individuals or firms are regulated and authorised by the SRA and verify an individual's or firm's practising details. Other verification methods, such as checking public records (e.g. telephone directories and company records) may be required in other circumstances.
